THE CRITICAL VIEW ON MOZAMBICAN REALITY

It is out of this chance that I intend to give some critical views on Mozambican reality especially on the political arena in relation to the human rights. Mozambique, being a country, which has been the victim of war for 16 years it is reasonable enough to update the mentality of people on the recognition of dignities and the values of human life. What’s more, this could be done by the local institutions, which work on behalf of international organization of human rights. It is true that Mozambican people these days are clamming to enjoy their independence after many years which Mozambican people lived under war. Still I as Mozambican, I am convinced that we free from all that which intimidates the well-being of Mozambican people. As it is said by John Powell, that “we are fully free only when the lenses of our attitudes allow us to see reality clearly only we can find meanings and value in ourselves, in our fellow human beings, in life and in death.” From my further reflection, on the Powell’s it paves a way for me that Mozambique or Mozambican people in general need further development of conscience for recognizing the values of human life. It is because Mozambican people have been under war for many years, and the spirit of violence and cruelty is still in their memory. As result many incidents related to violence and cruelty are always there within Mozambican societies. I do not intend to support that Mozambique is the country, which has great incidents of cruelty and violence, but rather I am intending to show how the spirit of criminality arises within Mozambican societies. Another problem is that Mozambique is one of the countries, which has very few educated people especially the qualified professionals that means ignorance also contributes on the issue of violence and cruelty in Mozambique. I remember, from 2005 to 2008 there were some great number of people who were killed underground by unknown criminals, especially in the provinces of Nampula and Cabo Delgado. The criminals, who were killing the people in these provinces, were taking human organs from the victims, and those organs included sexes and other parts of human body. Again, this problem involved the killing of people and disappearance of children; which they called o trafico das crianças (the children’s traffic). It especially took place in Nampula province the capital of northern part of Mozambique. In Cabo Delgado province which is also northern part of Mozambique, many people were killed anonymously especially in districts such as Muidumbe and Mocimboa da Praia. The funny history happened in Mocimboa da Praia district during the time which people were killed anonymously. The group of stealer people went to steal in the house of a foreign woman who was buying the human organs of the people who were killed anonymously by that time. By chance, the stealers took the machine, which served to store things on which the organs of the killed people were stored. Then when they opened the machine, they found within it all organs, which were taken from the killed people in that specific period. Stealer people, did not bear with it when they saw it, therefore they decided to take it to the police where they introduced themselves that they have stolen human organs of the people who were killed anonymously in one of the houses of a foreign woman who was living in that district close to the beach. So when the woman was caught, she did not refuse; she recognized openly that the organs actually belonged to her, and for her it was not illegal for she had documents which showed permission of buying such human organs of the killed people. It was really scaring and sad for the of such district. Nevertheless, from this it is very easy to understand that that lack of qualified professionals in Mozambique contributes on the issue of development of cruelty and violence. There were also many incidents of cruelty caused by polices, especially those who are not qualified professionally. I remember a young boy who was harmed violently by police in Mueda district simply because he had passed through the bicycle within the gate of rural hospital of Mueda district.
On the other hand, during my life in my Mozambique, I realized that the members of human rights in Mozambique worked harder in their institutions than outside of their institutions. They hardly conducted seminars in the villages or rural areas where there is a great concentration of people. Therefore, many of their reports of cruelty and violence originated in the towns and cities and rarely in the villages. Actually, the mass of Mozambican populations concentrates in the rural areas, simply because the agricultural is the base of economy, though the system of agriculture itself is very traditional. As I said at the outset of these arguments, Mozambican people need a great force of professional humanitarians who can build the conscience of the really peace and harmony, so weakening the spirit of cruelty and violence within Mozambican societies.
Mozambique is also considered as one of the democratic countries, as the leader of the opposition party known as Afonso Dhlakama claims to be the introducer of multiparty and democratic system in Mozambique. Actually, by his initiative seemed to be reasonable, but the means, which he used in order to achieve it, based on the violence and cruelty. He acted as if he was a person from outside Mozambique intending to colonize Mozambican people. It is because he relied too much on the power of South Africans, who intended to colonize Mozambique through him, though it failed but many people were killed innocently the houses were burnt especially the houses of poor people in the villages, again it was quite sad and scaring. As result, Dhlakama has been attempting candidating to be the present of Mozambique for many years, but it did not work. I am not intending to support that the leading party did not reveal cruelty to the people, but rather I am trying to show the irregularities of cruelty and violations, which took place in Mozambique in general. Members of the leading party also are recognized to exercise cruelty to the people especially in period of liberation. One of the actions of cruelty, which was exercised by the leading party, is the leading to disappearance of great number of prisoners who were revolting some of ideas of the leading party as it commented below:
“pós 25/04/1974, nomeadamente chega ao ponto de dizer que os prisioneiros políticos foram levados para o Niassa e lá morreram, quando todos sabemos que foram assassinados de forma cruel. Há testeminhos de que os nomes que refere na entrevista e muitos outros foram queimados vivos perto de Metelela.” In this cruelty one my grandfathers´ young brother was a victim up to know we do not know where is his grave or tomb, this is really sad and pitiful action of cruelty, which Mozambican people have lived from the leading party, though there many others which officially are not known or reported.
In one way or another Mozambican people need more number of qualified professionals in order to lead the country towards development in different perspectives. Many people who are leading the country in Mozambique are those who fought for the achievement of independence and they are not qualified professionals. Again they are always insecure in relation to their leadership, they fear to be criticized, I remember one of the Mozambican singers who was called to the court for calling people to shout against the corrupted leaders through his song or rap music. The goodness he did not point out any name of the corrupted leaders, but even though they got shocked, and this is the real sign of insecure in their course of their leadership.
In relation to corruption, actually it is true to affirm that corruption is everywhere in this world. There is no any institution which does not undergo corruption, before I thought that religious institutions were free from the problem of corruption but in a really sense it is not true; for they are also living under corruption and what is bad enough there is nobody who stands for shouting against religious corruption.
Armando Emilio Guebuza who is the president of Mozambique and of the leading party known as Frelimo, has been doing his best level in fighting against corruption in public institutions throughout the country but even though, the problem still prevails. He has been also doing well in providing great means for development of the country; so it paved a way for the people to vote him again and his Frelimo party in these last elections.
